    Yes, they are primarily a live band. But they could also make some great studio albums as well. They put out Rift, their second studio effort after the mildly successful Picture of Necture in 1993. When I first heard this one, I was like, wow..Shades... of Pink Floyd meets Gabriel era Genesis with a touch of XTC. Great album whether it be a concept or not. The music on this disc is outstanding, also probably their only studio album to capture the live sound that was also in the form a large scale production. Produced by Barry Beckett of Traffic fame, it is well worth the purchase. Recommended to anyone who likes this band obviously, but this album in particular might attract a progressive rock audience as well, a group of people that Phish probably wish they could best avoid.     concept rock, where art thou?

    While not technically a "concept album", it's as close as the band has come. It's a bit weak on the cohesive whole side of things, but the songs work very well together and transition well. This is their most "produced" album, and is really a throwb...ack to the epic acid rock albums of the 70's (just a look at the cover art should tell you that).There's not a track on this album that I don't like, and it just seems to get better with age. There's a certain energy to it. It has a bit of a feel of an unestablished band reaching for the stars. Or something.This album should appeal to those who like Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, and maybe even fans of Sgt. Pepper's. And, of course, to anyone who likes music. :) Read more Less
