By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 7, 2003

This film is probably the most horrifying and realistic film ive ever seen. It also shows how German sodiers SS and regular were also victims of Hitlers War. If you dont agree with me watch this film and you will understand.

    WWII Revisionist Herstory 101a

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 3, 2002

A bunch of really nice Germans get caught up in Barbarosa (Nazi invasion of Russia)?!? 99.44% of Nazi atrocities are simply not mentioned. This is vile rubbish of the first order.

    A collector's item!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 26, 2002

The worst flaw of this production is that it was obviously restricted by the budget, which explains why it is less technically sophisticated than, for example, Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's List". As in most cases, the cream of the American produce...rs are able to punch in a heavier investment than their European counterparts. However, disregarding this economic limitation, the film exposes most rare and extremely unknown perspective on that specific history, since most that the dominant world knows is written by the non-German sources, and under the pressure of "political correctness". The acting and the cenematographic styles are pleasantly European - finally something different, unconventionally enlightenning and witty. Read more Less

    Too many flaws

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 23, 2002

The damn subtitles were for speed readers!
And they were difficult to see.
Too many problems with this movie. I recomend it as a historical perspective on why war sucks but, i cant give higher than 3 stars.
    Just wasnt that great.

    about the madness of war

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 18, 2001

In my opinion, Stalingrad is one of the most crude and realistic war films i've ever seen. It takes us to one of the most horrible experiences of any man at any time: the battle of Stalingrad. It's not any emotive war film, showing how brave some sol...diers are, or how cruel the enemies were. It doesn't show winners and loosers. It's only an unpersonal view of the madness of war, an it's terrible effects. Read more Less

    Stalingrad

We learn from this film that German soldiers universally detested the Nazis and that only a stereotypical group of evil officers caused the horrors of WWII. The film is essentially revisionist history taking the "we were just following orders" line ...further by puting a face on the characters.Certainly it would be wrong to clum all German soldiers in one pot, but it is equally wrong to produce a film which leaves the impression that none of the enlisted men acted out of a belief in their cause. On the whole the Nazis were butchers who killed 20 million Russians. Historically they have only been outdone by Stalin who murdered 10 million of his own people.A MUCH BETTER anti war film by some of the same people is Das Boot where you learn to appreciate the characters. An unrelenting anti-war movie...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 12, 2001

In its ferocity and continuous message: "War is Hell", nothing is more stark and unrelenting than Stalingrad. See it if you're a little too happy or really need a reality check on how horrible war can be. I also found the characterizations a bit weak..., and difficult to identify--All swaddled-up for the Russian winter, they all look alike! As the above reviewer says, the Airport scene is masterful!
